Atarax (generic name: hydroxyzine; brand names include: Alamon, Aterax, Durrax, Tran-Q, Orgatrax, Quiess, Vistaril, Tranquizine) is an antihistamine medication.

It is primarily used for the treatment of itches and irritations, as an antiemetic for the reduction of nausea, as a weak analgesic by itself and as an opioid potentiator, and as an anxiolytic for the treatment of anxiety.

Atarax is fast-acting, with an onset of effect that occurs between 15 and 60 minutes and a duration of action between 4-6 hours.

Antihistamine medications such as Atarax are being studied for the treatment of long COVID.
