Glyburide

Glyburide (generic name: glibenclamide; brand names include: Diabeta / Glynase / Micronase / Daonil / Semi-Daonil / Euglucon / Gliben) belongs to a group of medicines known as sulfonylureas.

Glyburide is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Recommendations

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Glyburide exactly as directed.

The usual starting dose in adults including the elderly is one Glyburide tablet (2.5mg) a day before breakfast. Your doctor may raise the dose of Glyburide by one tablet at a time (2.5mg) until your diabetes is stabilized. When you are taking 2 or more Glyburide 2.5mg tablets your doctor may change you to Glyburide 5mg tablets.

Continue taking Glyburide for as long as your doctor tells you to.

Precautions

Tell your doctor before taking Glyburide, if:

you are allergic to any medicines;
you have severe liver or kidney problems, or a genetic disorder known as glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
