Descripción
Starlix (generic name: Nateglinide; brand names include: Fastic / Glinate / Glunat / Starsis / Trazec) belongs to a group of medicines called antidiabetic agents.
Starlix is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes (also known as non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or adult-onset diabetes).
Starlix is taken right before a meal to help reduce mealtime glucose spikes. Starlix helps your body release insulin early, right at the start of a meal, when your body really needs it.
Starlix can be taken either alone or in addition to other type 2 diabetes medications: metformin (also known as Glucophage) or a class of drugs called thiazolidinediones, also called glitazones or TZDs.
Recomendaciones
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Starlix exactly as direcgted.
Starlix is designed to provide glucose control at mealtime, so you need to take Starlix before each main meal. Starlix is most effective when taken immediately before eating (1 to 30 minutes before your first bite). If you take Starlix after you've started eating, it won't be as effective. Also, it is best to take Starlix with a glass of water.
The usual recommended starting and maintenance dose of Starlix, alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medicines, is 120 mg three times daily before meals.
If you skip a meal, do not take your dose of Starlix. This will reduce the risk of low blood sugar.
Precauciones
Do not take Starlix, if:
you have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
