Casodex (generic name: Bicalutamide; brand names include: Cosudex / Calutide / Kalumid / Bicalox) is a non-steroidal anti-androgen medicine.

Casodex is indicated for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. Casodex is intended for use with other medicines.

Casodex works by blocking the action of androgens.

Androgens are natural male sex hormones. In some types of prostate cancer, androgens may help the cancer cells to grow. By blocking these hormones, Casodex may slow or stop the growth of cancer cells.

Casodex is not addictive.

Casodex 50 mg is available under the trade name Calutide manufactured by Cipla.

Recommendations

Follow the directions for using Casodex provided by your doctor. Take Casodex exactly as directed.

Start taking Casodex at the same time as the other drugs you are taking to treat your prostate cancer.

The usual adult dose is one 50 mg tablet taken each day.

Swallow your Casodex tablet whole with a full glass of water.

Take Casodex at about the same time each day. It does not matter if you take Casodex before, with or after food.

Keep taking Casodex for as long as your doctor or pharmacist tells you.

If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember, as long as it is 12 hours or more before the next dose is due. If it is less than 12 hours to the next dose do not take the dose you have missed. Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose that you missed.

Keep the tablets at room temperature in a dry place.

Precautions

Before taking Casodex, tell your doctor if:

you are allergic to any medicines;
you have liver problems.
