Deferasirox

Deferasirox (trade names include: Desirox / Exjade / Jadenu) is an oral iron chelator used to reduce chronic iron overload.

Deferasirox is the first oral medication approved by FDA for chronic iron overload in patients receiving long term blood transfusions.

Deferasirox is available as 250 mg and 500 mg pills under the trade name Desirox manufactured by Cipla.

Iron chelators such as Deferasirox are being studied for the treatment of COVID-19 as iron chelation may be helpful in alleviating inflammation and cytokine storm.
