Requip (generic name: ropinirole; brand names include: Ropidon / Adartrel / Ropark) is a non-ergoline dopamine agonist.

Requip is used for the treatment of:

Parkinson's disease
Restless legs syndrome (RLS)

Requip works by increasing the dopamine levels in the brain. Dopamine is a natural substance in the brain that is needed to control movement.

Recommendations

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Requip exactly as directed.

Take Requip by mouth with or without food. Swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not chew them.

People usually take between 3mg and 9mg of Requip a day. When you first start taking Requip, the amount you take will be increased gradually. Your doctor may then increase or decrease the amount of Requip that you are taking to get the best effect.

Keep taking Requip for as long as your doctor recommends.

If a scheduled dose is missed, leave out that dose completely. Take your next dose at the normal time.

Keep Requip at room temperature in a dry place.

Precautions

Before taking Requip, tell your doctor if:

you are allergic to any medicines;
you have severe kidney, liver or heart trouble; or you suffer from a serious psychiatric disorder;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
