Asacol
Asacol (generic name: Mesalazine/Mesalamine; brand names include: Ipocal / Pentasa / Salofalk / Canasa / Rowasa / Pentasa / Asacol / Lialda / Apriso / Masacol) belongs to a group of medicines known as aminosalicylates.
Asacol tablets are indicated for the treatment of mildly to moderately active ulcerative colitis and for the maintenance of remission of ulcerative colitis.
In clinical trials, people taking Asacol who achieved remission had:

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Asacol exactly as directed.
For the treatment of mildly to moderately active ulcerative colitis:
The usual dosage in adults is two 400 mg tablets to be taken three times a day for a total daily dose of 2.4 grams for a duration of 6 weeks.
For the maintenance of remission of ulcerative colitis:
The recommended dosage in adults is 1.6 grams daily, in divided doses.

Tell your doctor before taking Asacol, if:
you are allergic to any medicines;
you are suffering from a stomach ulcer; liver or kidney problems; or you have had problems with clotting of your blood;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
